 Primary energy resources up 4.9% in the first ten months;final electricity consumption down 0.2%

Romania's primary energy resources increased by 4.9% in the first ten months of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, while final electricity consumption was 0.2% lower, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Monday.According to the consolidated data, from January 1 to October 31, 2025, electricity resources increased by 4.8% (to 57.219 billion kWh), compared to the first ten months of the previous year.The main primary energy resources totalled 28.346 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe), increasing by 1.334 million toe year-on-year, while domestic production amounted to 13.709 million toe, declining by 385,900 toe (-2.7%). Imports reached 14.636 million toe, increasing by 1.720 million toe (+13.3%).The INS data reveals that, at the end of October 2025, the electricity production from thermal power plants was 13.812 billion kWh, down 251.2 million kWh (-1.8%), the production from hydroelectric plants stood at 9.816 billion kWh (-21.7%) and the production from nuclear power plants reached 9.053 billion kWh (+1.6%).Moreover, the production from wind power plants decreased by 249.3 million kWh, to 4.818 billion kWh over the ten months, while solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations was 4.283 billion kWh, increasing by 1.108 billion kWh.At the same time, the final electricity consumption was 41.456 billion kWh, 0.2% lower than the period from January 1 to October 31, 2024, while the electricity consumption in the economy decreased by 0.6%, household consumption rose by 1.1% and public lighting saw a decline by 5.1%.According to the quoted source, electricity exports reached 11.773 billion kWh, increasing by 2.670 billion kWh, while the own technological consumption in networks and substations was 3.989 billion kWh, higher by 69.5 million kWh.
