Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan held a working meeting on Friday with a World Bank delegation led by Antonella Bassani, Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, with discussions focusing on the technical and financial support Romania needs to advance economic reforms and improve the performance of public institutions.An important part of the talks was dedicated to mobilising financing in key areas. The World Bank expressed its willingness to support Romania through loans and guarantees for agriculture, energy and public-private partnership projects, the Government stated in a press release.Prime Minister Bolojan highlighted Romania's untapped agricultural potential and noted that the lack of processing capacity for agri-food products keeps the country in the position of importer of finished goods. He requested support for developing the processing industry so that Romania can increase domestic production and improve its trade balance. In the energy sector, discussions focused on access to financing for projects that can stabilise and modernise the energy system.Ilie Bolojan said that the Government is determined to improve revenue collection and combat tax evasion. He requested the World Bank's expertise for adjusting fiscal legislation and procedures so the system becomes more efficient and transparent. Reforms in state-owned companies were also discussed, aimed at better governance and professionalising management.The World Bank confirmed its readiness to continue supporting Romania in financing the budget deficit, provided the assumed reforms continue. Representatives of the institution stressed that this support is intended to strengthen economic stability and sustain durable public policies.In conclusion, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan added that the central objective of the reforms is to increase the efficiency of the state and restore public trust in institutions.'The partnership with the World Bank helps us accelerate these changes and build an economy on healthy foundations,' Prime Minister Bolojan said.Antonella Bassani expressed her readiness to offer support and expertise, so that Romania can harness its potential in essential sectors and ensure a state that is more efficient and accountable to its citizens.Also attending the meeting were Florin Zaharia, State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and Liviu Voinea, Romania's representative to the World Bank.
