PSD's Grindeanu: Proposals on administration and fiscal measures require further discussion this week

September 17, 2025

Interim Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Sorin Grindeanu stated on Monday that there are still two chapters in the second package regarding the budget deficit which require further discussions - administration and fiscal measures. He mentioned having held several meetings in the past week with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan in order to find solutions."I said this - we don't have any issue regarding the regulation aimed at eliminating privileges. (...) We are advanced within the PSD and we can say that everything currently under public debate regarding healthcare has also been approved. There are two proposals under public consultation - regarding administration and fiscal measures - which require further discussions this week. What have we cleared today? Yes, ok, on everything related to the package eliminating privileges, without any hesitation. Yes, we're going to all working groups, whether on administration, fiscal or as today, on the PNRR [National Recovery and Resilience Plan] and we bring our contribution, obviously, a constructive contribution. We are aware that this ordinance on PNRR must be issued and, the moment we have the full picture, yes, we can come up with a matter we care deeply about and which was broadly presented in the BPN [National Political Bureau], namely proposals for economic recovery," Grindeanu stated at the PSD central headquarters after the party's BPN meeting.According to the PSD leader, Radu Oprea, together with other colleagues, a first draft has been completed regarding economic recovery and it shall be presented to the Prime Minister.Asked if he will return to the coalition meetings, Grindeanu said: "I said that at the moment, we are doing the following - on each level, we go and try to overcome this situation. (...) We need to learn to work within a coalition of four parties plus a minority group and begin to understand that decision-making mechanisms within the coalition must be observed. I can give you an example and I am glad that at the the end of last week, it was possible to reverse a decision that would have put the coalition in a difficult position, namely, approving on Thursday the emergency ordinance I was talking about, the regulation on the PNRR without it being prior discussed or approved, and thus, in a hastily manner."
