Real Estate: Number of commissioned dwellings nationwide falls 4.7pct in first nine months

The number of commissioned dwellings nationwide fell in the first nine months of this year to 40,322 units, compared with the same period in 2024 when the figure stood at 42,312, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Friday.Official statistics show that between 1 January and 30 September 2025 most commissioned dwellings were commissioned in urban areas, accounting for 54.3% of all finished dwellings.The breakdown by funding source indicates that during the reference period the number of completed dwellings built with private funds decreased by 2,126 units, while the number built with public funds increased by 136.In regional terms, in the first nine months of this year the number of completed dwellings fell in the following development regions: Centre (-868), North-West (-614), West (-341), South-Muntenia (-233), South-East (-223) and South-West Oltenia (-215).At the same time increases were recorded in the Bucharest-Ilfov region (+448) and the North-East region (+56).According to the same source, in the third quarter of the current year urban areas accounted for 53.1% of all completed dwellings, and in terms of funding sources the number of dwellings built with private funds fell by 856 units but the number built with public funds increased by 193.The regional distribution comparing Q3 2025 with Q3 2024 shows a decrease in the number of completed dwellings in the following development regions: North-West (-644), North-East (-351), Centre (-293), South-West Oltenia (-75), South-Muntenia (-33) and South-East (-11).On the other hand increases were registered in the Bucharest-Ilfov region (+687) and the West region (+57).
