Red, Orange sizzling weather alerts to stay in force through Thursday, yet heatwave to progressively recede

Forecasters issued on Wednesday three new Code Yellow, Code Orange and Code Red sizzling wether warnings effective in most regions, but progressively backing down starting Thursday.According to the National Weather Administration (ANM), a Code Orange excessive heat advisory is in place in Maramures and locally in Crisana, Transylvania and northern Moldova. Temperature highs will be around 33 - 37 degrees, accompanied by oppressive heat-related discomfort as the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units. In spots, temperature lows will not drop below 20 degrees.Throughout Wednesday, a Code Red advisory for sweltering heat will remain in effect for most of the country, with the regions of Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia, Dobrogea, most of Moldova and the south of Transylvania and Crisana experiencing temperature highs between 37 and 42 degrees, while on the sea coast they will stay between 33 - 36 degrees. Humidity will particularly add to discomfort, as the ITU will exceed 80 units. Temperature lows will range between 22 and 24 degrees.On Thursday, the south of Crisana, the south-west of Transylvania, central Moldova and the area of the Southern Carpathians are under a Code Yellow heatwave warning, with expected temperature highs of 35 degrees, and the temperature-humidity index set to exceed 80 units. The nights will be tropical, with temperature minimums at 20 degrees.Also, a Code Orange heat advisory will be in effect for areas in Banat, northern Oltenia and Muntenia, as well as in southern Moldova, as the heatwave relentlessly holds them in grip, pushing temperatures to 35 - 38 degrees. In certain areas, the minimums will not drop below 20 degrees.According to the meteorologists, also on Thursday, a Code Red warning of sweltering heat and particularly high thermal discomfort will be in force in the counties of Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Calarasi, Ialomita, Braila, Tulcea, Constanta and Bucharest, with temperature highs hitting 38 to 41 degrees, and 34 - 37 degrees at the seaside. The lows will be between 22 and 24 degrees.The ANM specifies that in the coming days the heatwave will gradually recede and weaken, although more scorching spells are in store especially for the country southeast.
