Regional security discussed at SHAPE national military representatives' meeting

  Regional security and the implementation of the decisions of the Vilnius NATO Summit were discussed at a recent meeting in Romania of the national military representatives of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN) informed on Thursday.According to MApN, Head of the ministry's Department for Defence Policy, Planning and International Affairs Simona Cojocaru, and Chief of Defence (CoD) Gheorghita Vlad on Tuesday welcomed the SHAPE national military representatives .The agenda included regional security, the implementation of the NATO Vilnius Summit, preparation for the NATO summit to be held in Washington DC in July, as well as opportunities to strengthen NATO's defensiveness on the eastern flank and in the Black Sea region."We should continue our efforts to enhance NATO's deterrence and defence posture on the eastern flank. It is also a priority to maintain unity and support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression. In this volatile context, marked by multiple crises and repeated changes in the security environment, we will continue the efforts to equip and modernise the armed forces at a sustained pace," said Cojocaru.MApN quotes CoD Vlad as highlighting the efforts and involvement of the Romanian armed forces in strengthening collective defence, including the implementation of regional plans and action guidelines agreed at NATO level.Part of the meeting, General Vlad bestowed the Badge of Honour of the Defence Staff on the national military representatives at SHAPE.The schedule of the NATO delegation in Romania also included visits to the 57th Air Base at Mihail Kogalniceanu and to the Constanta Military Port.The SHAPE national military representatives conduct such visits regularly, on a rotating basis, to all NATO member countries.
