February 22, 2024

President Klaus Iohannis said on Tuesday, at the annual meeting with heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania, that 2024 is a very important election year both at European and national level and that vigilance is needed against extremist currents."All elections this year will have to reflect our democratic maturity. Romania has successfully made its way towards freedom and democracy, it has taken its deserved place in the European Union and in NATO; we will remain vigilant against extremist currents and will not allow the basic principles of our society and our system of values to be undermined," Iohannis said.He said he was counting on dialogue, collaboration and solidarity to build a safer and more prosperous world and that the role of diplomacy was to find the elements that "bring us closer and make us stronger together"."We cannot afford to be weak, divided or incoherent. We must defend the rule-based world order, as well as our community of values and security," president Iohannis added.
