ResearchMin Ivan: Made in Romania drone project will be based on an integrated vision

April 29, 2024

Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation Bogdan Ivan said on Thursday that the project for the manufacture of drones in Romania will be based on an integrated vision, and soon he will have a meeting with the economy minister and the defence minister to discuss this subject. He was asked at a news conference at the Government House if he had discussions with the economy minister regarding the release for production of a made in Romanian drone."I had discussions with both him and Minister Angel Tilvar, the defence minister, precisely because it is a joint effort of Romania, not just of a ministry. At the moment, at the level of our ministry, through the research institutes we have, I give you the example INCAS, COMOTI, we already have the concept of at least 10 drones that have autonomy up to six hours, some of them, some that are very small, and some that can have around the clock autonomy and that are connected by highly sophisticated devices. From this point of view, Romania has brilliant minds. We sat at the same table, and we are going to have a meeting together with the two ministers involved, the economy minister and the defence minister, precisely to ensure an integrated vision on Romania's drone project," said Ivan said.According to him, the organisations coordinated by the ministry he leads will contribute with expertise on the research side in the Romanian drone project."We, as a ministry, come up with everything that means expertise in the field of research, plus applied research. Together with the Ministry of Economy, we are making the transfer to the market and the know-how transfer to the market, and we would be very happy for one of the beneficiaries of these projects to be Romania's Defence Ministry."
