Road transport of goods, up by 1.2%, in first 9 months of 2023, railway down by 11.6%

The road transport of goods registered, in the first nine months of 2023, an increase of 1.2% in terms of the volume of transported goods, compared to the similar period of the previous year, out of a total of 241.381 million tons, 83% being registered in national transport, according to the data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics.The course of goods increased by 2.9% compared to the period January-September 2022, in national transport registering an increase of 3.3%.In railway transport, the volume of goods decreased by 11.6%, due to the negative developments of all components. 36.966 million tons of goods were transported, of which 79.6% in national transport.In maritime transport, 49.215 million tons were registered, of which 49.196 million tons were in international transport. Compared to the first nine months of 2022, the total volume marked an increase of 8.5%.Goods transported on inland waterways totaled 23.395 million tons, of which 63.3% in international transport. The volume of transported goods increased by 9.1% compared to the same of the previous year, while the length of the goods increased by 5.3%.Transportation by main oil pipelines recorded 4.559 million tons of transported goods, down 10.3% compared to the same period in 2022, while the length of goods decreased by 14.8%.In air transport, the volume of transported goods recorded a total of 36,000 tons, down 2.4%.In the mentioned period, in national road transport, 62.9% of the volume of goods was transported over distances between 1-49 km, 21% over distances between 50-149 km and 12.8% over distances between 150-499 km , and in the national transport on inland waterways, 42.3% of the volume of goods was transported over distances between 150-299 km.In road transport, the divisions of goods with the largest weights in the total of transported goods were metal ores and other mining and quarrying products; peat; uranium and thorium (36.7%) and other non-metallic mineral products (16.3%).Significant weights in railway transport were recorded for the coke, refined petroleum products (23.3%) and coal and lignite divisions; coal and natural gas (21.4%).In maritime transport, the most important shares in total transported goods were recorded in the divisions of agricultural, hunting and forestry products; fish and other fishery products (42%) and coal and lignite; coal and natural gas (15%).In the transport on inland waterways, important shares were recorded in the divisions of agricultural, hunting and forestry products; fish and other fishing products (42.3%) and metal ores and other mining and quarrying products; peat; uranium and thorium (25.4%).Of the total of goods in international road transport, respectively 40.994 million tons, transport between third countries represented 45.1%, cabotage 22.3% and loaded goods 18.5%.In the international road transport of goods, 94.8% of all unloaded goods came from EU member states and 94.4% of all loaded goods were destined for EU member states. The largest quantities of goods unloaded came from Germany (21.4%), Italy (15.3%) and Hungary (11.6%), and in terms of loadings, 16.7% of the volume of goods had as destination Germany, 15.7% Italy and 15.2% Hungary.
