Romania - Ireland Agreement in the field of defence

The first Memorandum of Understanding between the Irish Ministry of Defence and the Romanian Ministry of National Defence (MApN) on defence cooperation was signed on Monday in Bucharest. According to a MApN press release sent on Monday, the state secretary for defence policy, planning and international relations, Simona Cojocaru received on Monday the visit of the general secretary of the Irish ministry of defence, Jacqui McCrum, context where the two officials signed the memorandum of understanding.‘The document will offer the necessary framework for the development and promotion of cooperation and bilateral relations, with reciprocal benefits especially as regards the increase of interoperability and deployability within the framework of international missions or operations of the United Nations and the European Union," the MApN said.During the bilateral meeting there were approached topics of joint interest referring to the security situation in the zones of interest and the efforts of the international community to ensure peace and stability at regional and global level.At the same time, the two officials discussed about the potential bilateral cooperation projects between Romania and Ireland, against the background of signing the memorandum for cooperation in the domain of defence.The state secretary Simona Cojocaru mentioned Romania's role as a pole of stability in the Black Sea region, in the implementation of allied measures to strengthen deterrence and defence, and expressed interest in active cooperation with Ireland, highlighting the potential offered by EU projects in this field.
