Romania receives 16th formal opinion in joining OECD from Committee on Statistics

November 24, 2025

Romania has received the 16th formal opinion in the process of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), from the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policies, which means that the National Statistical System is considered to be aligned with the organisation's standards in the field, Luca Niculescu (photo), national coordinator for Romania's accession to the OECD, said on Friday."The week ends with excellent news! Romania has received the 16th Formal Opinion in the process of joining the OECD - that of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policies. That means that the country's National Statistical System is deemed aligned with the organisation's standards in the area. It is a really important step, because statistics are the backbone of the OECD. Everything the organisation does - analyses, reports, policy recommendations - is based on rigorous and comparable data between countries," Niculescu wrote in a social media post.According to him, the OECD plays a key role in the development of international statistical standards, working closely with the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and Eurostat to ensure global data consistency. He added that the areas covered by OECD statistics are many: economy, education, health, environment, energy, work, innovation, governance, being practically all the major themes that define life."Congratulations to my colleagues from the National Institute of Statistics and to its chairman Tudorel Andrei on their consistent work and on the solid partnership with the OECD. I want to thank to my colleagues from the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Romania and those from other bodies involved in the process. (...) We move on: 16 committees closed, nine remaining. I would say that we are getting closer," Luca Niculescu said.  (Photo:https://gov.ro/)
