The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), is conducting searches at the premises of the Maramures County and 14 private residences of some of its officials, https://www.eppo.europa.eu/ reads. The searches are happening in the wake of an ongoing investigation into possible procurement fraud, forgery of documents and abuse of office linked to renovation works of a public administration building. Several civil servants are suspected of abuse of office for approving the payment of unfinished works based on falsified documents. The project in question, valued at over €1 million (RON 5.7 million), is funded by the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) for Romania. No further details can be disclosed at this stage of the investigation. The EPPO is the independent public prosecution office of the European Union.
