Romania, signatory of a joint statement supporting a ceasefire agreement in Israel-Hamas conflict

  President Klaus Iohannis is one of the 17 heads of state who signed a joint declaration supporting a cease-fire agreement in the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Presidential Administration says.The declaration is also signed by the heads of state of the United States of America, Argentina, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Thailand and the UK."As leaders of countries deeply concerned about the situation of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, including many of our own citizens, we fully support the efforts for a ceasefire agreement and the release of the hostages, which is now on the discussion table and which was presented by President Biden on May 31, 2024. There is no more time to lose. We call on Hamas to conclude this agreement, which Israel is prepared to do follow, and start the process of liberating our citizens," the document states.The signatories of the Joint Declaration believe that "this agreement would lead to an immediate ceasefire and the rehabilitation of Gaza, along with security guarantees for Israelis and Palestinians and opportunities for a more sustainable long-term peace and a two-state solution"."At this crucial moment, we call on the leaders of Israel, as well as Hamas, to make any final compromises necessary to conclude this agreement and to bring relief to the families of our hostages, as well as to those on both sides of this terrible conflict, including the populations civilians. It is time for the war to end, and this agreement is the necessary starting point," the Joint Declaration states.
