Romania to ensure negotiation process of Creative Europe 2021-2027 programme during its Presidency of EU Council

Culture and National Identity Minister Valer-Daniel Breaz represented Romania in the meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council, expressing Romania’s commitment to ensuring the progress of the Creative Europe 2021-2027 negotiations during Romania’s Presidency of the EU Council. According to the Culture and National Identity Ministry (MCIN), the Council held in Brussels, took note of the report on progress regarding the negotiation of the Creative Europe programme 2021-2027, with Romania expressing its commitment to ensure the negotiations process during its Presidency of EU Council. “In the honorable quality that we will have at the leadership of the EU Council, we will encourage a consistent progress in the forthcoming negotiations of the proposed Regulation. A quick agreement is vital to ensure predictability and continuity of funding for the benefit of all parties involved,” said Minister Breaz, according to a press release of the MCIN sent to AGERPRES.. In the debate on combating online disinformation, Romania highlighted the importance of education in the media area and that of the support measures for high quality journalism, as well as the need for collaboration between the EU institutions and EU the member states, in order to create a European information verification platform, the quoted source mentions. The Council also adopted two sets of conclusions on the strengthening of European content in the digital economy, as well as the Working plan for Culture 2019-2022. On this occasion, Romania presented its work priorities in the cultural and audiovisual area, according to the MCIN, “an important emphasis” will be on “developing the European cinematographic industry with the aim of ensuring better circulation of audiovisual works, especially coproductions.” Romania also aims to capitalise on the economic potential of culture and creative industries, and emphasise the importance of young generations’ access to culture. On the sidelines of the Council, Minister Breaz discussed with France’s Culture Minister Franck Riester, as well as with German counterpart Federal Government Commissioner Monika Grutters. The Romanian Minsiter was accompanied by Secretary of State for European Affairs and International Relations with the MCIN Razvan Rab.
