Romanian customs officers will benefit from the support of the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training within the Embassy of the United States of America in Romania (OPDAT) to strengthen the capacities to detect cases of counterfeit products, in order to combat illegal traffic of goods that infringe intellectual property rights."The Romanian Customs Authority and the Office for Development, Assistance and International Training for Prosecutors within the Embassy of the United States of America in Romania (OPDAT) agreed that customs workers will be trained by OPDAT to strengthen the capacities to detect cases of counterfeit products, in in order to combat the illicit traffic of goods that violate an intellectual property right", informs a press release of the Romanian Customs Authority sent on Friday.The president of the Romanian institution, Ion Cupa, had a meeting with the new coordinator of the International Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property (ICHIP) within OPDAT, federal prosecutor Kristi O'Malley. The meeting was also attended by the management of the relevant structure in the field of property rights assurance within the customs authority, namely Alexandru Ioan Dudu - general director of the General Directorate of Customs Control Coordination, and Gabriela Hura - head of service of the Restricted and Prohibited Goods Control Coordination Service.The meeting followed the introduction of the new ICHIP coordinator and the expertise that the Romanian Customs Authority can benefit from during the course of this program, namely theoretical and practical training sessions on the detection of cases of traffic in goods susceptible to counterfeiting.
