Romanian Employers' Confederation representative deems tightening of fiscal environment worst option

February 13, 2025

The rigid approach, of tightening the fiscal environment, is the worst option that the Government can take at the present time, said Adrian Izvoranu, vice-president of the Romanian Employers' Confederation of Industry, Agriculture, Constructions and Services, on Tuesday."In general, this rigid approach, of tightening the fiscal environment, is the worst option that the Government can take at the present time. If it wants money, the finance minister must relax the fiscal environment and not harden it. He must diversify and increase his collection base. He has to have somewhere to collect, he has to computerize and upgrade its collection apparatus. And that's about it," Adrian Izvoranu told the press conference on "What do we do with Romania's economy?", organized by the Association for Economic and Social Studies and Forecasts, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Romania and Romanian Employers' Confederation of Industry, Agriculture, Constructions and Services".He also spoke categorically against an increase in taxation and VAT."Increasing VAT and, in general, increasing taxes is an unfortunate measure, the worst that can be taken and will never bring extra money," said Adrian Izvoranu. The Government approved, on December 30, 2024, the Emergency Ordinance on some fiscal-budgetary measures in the field of public spending, for the substantiation of the consolidated general budget for 2025, for amending and supplementing some normative acts, as well as for the extension of some deadlines.
