Romanian, Moldovan and Ukrainian parliamentary legal committees sign resolution in support of just Ukraine peace

March 13, 2025

Representatives of the Romanian Senate's Legal Committee, convened in a meeting in Moisei - Maramures County with fellow MPs sitting on the Legal Committee of the Moldovan Parliament and on the Legal Policy Committee of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, agreed to adopt a resolution firmly condemning the war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation on Ukraine and reaffirming support for the restoration of a just and lasting peace that respects Ukraine's political independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, underlining the crucial importance of the principle "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine".According to a statement by Liberal Senator Cristian Niculescu-Tagarlas, at whose initiative the event was organized, the adopted resolution specifies that "the Romanian Senate confirms the support granted to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the process of EU accession and welcomes their efforts in fulfilling the reform agenda established by the Union. The confirmation of progress is reflected in the formal opening of accession negotiations for the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine."Also, "the Romanian Senate's Committee on Legal Affairs, Appointments, Discipline, Immunities and Validations supports the continuation of reforms in order to promote the rule of law, fundamental rights and values and remains a close partner of the Law Committees of the Legislatures of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The members of the committees condemn the hybrid actions of other states aimed at undermining democratic institutions directed against the member states of the European Union and the states in the process of accession.""Three years have passed since Russia's all-out invasion of Ukraine, and we firmly condemn the war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation and reaffirm our support for the restoration of a just and lasting peace that respects the political independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. We underline the crucial importance of the principle 'nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine' in this regard," the resolution stresses. The document is signed by the Chair of the Legal Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Veronica Rosca, Chair of the Legal Policy Committee of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine Denys Maslov, Chair of the Legal Committee of the Senate of Romania Ion-Cristinel Rujan, Chair of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Senate of Romania Titus Corlatean, and the Chair of the Culture and Media Committee of the Senate of Romania Cristian-Augustin Niculescu-Tagarlas.
