Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu and her Serbian counterpart Marko Djuric discussed on Tuesday the possibility of restoring the cross-border rail link between Romania and Serbia, during a phone call focused on the exceptionally low water levels of the Danube.According to a statement from the Serbian Foreign Ministry, cited by Tanjug, both ministers agreed that resuming the rail connection would be "a significant contribution to improving connectivity and strengthening economic cooperation" between the two countries.International passenger rail traffic between Romania and Serbia has been suspended for several years.Regarding the Danube's unusually low levels, the two ministers examined options for coordinated action to limit the impact on navigation, the economy and river transport. Toiu and Djuric underlined the importance of close cooperation between the competent institutions in both states to monitor the situation and adopt measures needed to maintain safe navigation and ensure the uninterrupted river traffic.The Serbian ministry added that the two ministers reaffirmed the traditionally good and friendly relations between Romania and Serbia and their shared commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation through intense political dialogue and collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
