ROMATOM at WNE 2025: Strategic partnerships, declaration to triple nuclear capacity and institutional-commercial dialogue

The representative association of Romania's nuclear industry, the Romanian Atomic Forum ROMATOM attended the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE) 2025 in Paris from 4 to 6 November, where it signed a joint declaration to triple nuclear capacity by 2050 and concluded an agreement with the UK.According to a release sent to AGERPRES on Saturday, ROMATOM concluded its presence at the WNE 2025 with substantial results: strengthening bilateral cooperation with the UK by signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), assuming - along 17 employers' associations and international organisations - a joint declaration ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) to triple nuclear capacity by 2050, a series of institutional meetings and technical discussions with traditional partners and new players of the global market.ROMATOM participated for the first time with a pavilion sponsored by the Romanian Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (ARICE).On the sidelines of the WNE on 4 November, ROMATOM and the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) opening an extended agenda of cooperation between the nuclear industries of Romania and the UK. The document covers fission reactor projects, fusion research, decommissioning and waste management, medical applications using radioisotopes and research-development projects across the full spectrum of technologies in Romania, the UK and international markets."Romania and the United Kingdom share a commitment for clean and reliable nuclear energy, a pillar of energy security. The agreement lays the foundations for practical cooperation - connecting supply chains, accelerating innovation and training - for tangible benefits in both countries," ROMATOM CEO Corina Truica said, according to the release.ROMATOM also joined a coalition of 17 nuclear industry associations, under the GIFEN initiative and in coordination with the World Nuclear Association, to urge decision-makers to: maintain the goal of tripling global nuclear capacity by 2050, safely extend the lifespan of existing plants, launch new projects (large reactors, SMR/AMR), strengthen the entire fuel cycle, and facilitate financing through stable public policies and appropriate market mechanisms.The declaration underlines the role of nuclear energy as a controllable, low-carbon solution, essential for energy security and deep decarbonisation, as well as for maintaining skills and industrial value chains in Europe and at global level.In the presence of Monique Barbut, the French Minister of Ecological Transition, the signing took place in Paris at the WNE 2025 as part of an international mobilisation, with 32 countries already using nuclear energy and over 30 assessing it for the future. The stated goal: reaffirming the role of nuclear energy in combating climate change, contributing to supply security through a CO2-free source, supporting skills and value chains and encouraging innovation and solutions suited to local needs.ROMATOM also held substantial discussions with a Japanese delegation regarding industrial cooperation, standards interoperability, skills development and prospects for shared supply chains in nuclear projects in Romania and the region.At the same time, ROMATOM hosted the visit of Romania's Ambassador to France, alongside Cristian Busoi, Secretary of State responsible of nuclear projects portfolio, with talks focused on supporting strategic projects, dialogue with French authorities and facilitating industrial partnerships.The ROMATOM pavilion also hosted multilateral discussions between Romania, Canada and countries interested in CANDU technology.ROMATOM welcomed a delegation of MEPs led by Christophe Grudler, including members of the European Parliament Intergroup on Nuclear Energy and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The meeting reflected the MEPs' ongoing interest for the central role of nuclear energy in climate protection and strengthening the EU's energy sovereignty, with a focus on European industrial added value and the entire value chain of the sector.Throughout the exhibition, ROMATOM held technical and commercial sessions with European and international companies, focusing on: Romanian industry participation in major projects (large reactors and SMRs), localisation of production, technology transfer, professional training, quality and certification, as well as financing mechanisms suited to the specifics of nuclear projects.The World Nuclear Exhibition is the largest global event dedicated to civil nuclear energy, organised by GIFEN, with the 2025 edition held in Paris-Nord Villepinte from 4 to 6 November 2025.The Romanian Atomic Forum - ROMATOM is the association of Romania's nuclear industry, with a mission to support strategic projects, develop supply chains and promote standards of excellence, safety and sustainability.
