Rompetrol Rafinare implements new public alarm system on Petromidia platform

November 28, 2024

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member company of the KMG International Group (Rompetrol), has implemented a new alarm system at the Petromidia Navodari platform through an investment of approximately $700,000, the company said in a release."Continuous investments and the development of projects with an impact on safety, including the implementation of new protection systems, both for our employees and for the nearby population, are major priorities for Rompetrol Rafinare. The main benefit of the new system is the possibility of an efficient, real-time response in emergency situations, allowing us to maintain a high standard of safety in all sectors," said Rompetrol Rafinare CEO Florian Daniel Pop, as cited in the release. The new system consists of 22 sirens of various capacities and a central station for their operation and control. 9 sirens are installed within the precincts of the Petromidia platform, and 13 are outside the refinery, in such locations as Mamaia, Navodari, Lumina, Corbu, Sibioara and Piatra.Their location was established on the basis of a study carried out by an expert company and approved by the "Dobrogea" Constanta Emergency Management Inspectorate, so as to allow the alarm to cover a radius of 10 km around the site of the refinery. The new equipment can be operated in a centralized system both by specially trained Rompetrol Rafinare personnel in cases of necessity that concern the company, as well as by the Emergency Management Inspectorate, for situations unrelated to the activity of the Petromidia platform and that concern the entire population. The new sirens have a much wider range than the old ones, which only covered the perimeter of the Petromidia platform. In addition to acoustic signals, the new system makes it possible to transmit voice messages announcing the reason why the alarm was triggered and how the population must act.The works were coordinated by Rompetrol Rafinare experts through Rominserv, the general contractor of KMG International Group (Rompetrol), with the support of the Emergency Management Inspectorate, and were carried out by a specialized company. In 2024 Rompetrol Rafinare carried out projects for the development and modernization of operational assets worth a total of about $85 million, plus other investments in maintenance and compliance.
