Russian charge d'affaires in Bucharest summoned by the Romanian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Federation's chargé d'affaires ad interim in Bucharest was urgently summoned on Thursday to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), in the context of the drone attack on the Romanian-Ukrainian border, and was informed of ''the firm condemnation of the repeated violation of Romania's airspace by unmanned vehicles of the Russian military forces'', ''which represents a blatant violation of international law by a permanent member of the UN Security Council''.''The MAE firmly condemns the irresponsible attack by the Russian forces today, February 13, 2025, when two Russian drones carrying explosive material violated the airspace and fell on Romanian territory near the border with Ukraine'', a MAE release reads.By order of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Russian Federation in Bucharest was urgently summoned to the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.''He was conveyed the firm condemnation of the repeated violation of Romania's airspace by unmanned vehicles of the Russian military forces, which represents a blatant violation of international law by a permanent member of the UN Security Council,'' the quoted source informs.The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that these illegal and irresponsible attacks must cease, with Romania reserving the right to take the necessary response measures.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls that these actions are an inseparable part of Russia's illegal and unprovoked aggression against Ukraine, which for almost three years has been generating security risks for the entire Black Sea region and the Eastern Flank of the North Atlantic Alliance.The Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have informed the allied structures about this new incident and remain in permanent contact with them, the cited source also shows.Four fighter jets took off from the "Mihail Kogalniceanu" Air Base after radars detected, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, several targets in Ukrainian airspace, close to the border with Romania, with a possible impact zone being reported on the national territory approximately 10 km east of the administrative boundary of the municipality of Galati, according to the Ministry of National Defense.
