Over 87% of Romanians have applied, in recent months, measures to reduce energy consumption in their homes or businesses, and over 60% are interested in investing in various energy efficiency projects in the next year, for increased comfort and to reduce their energy bills, reveals research carried out for the despre-energie.ro platform, a project of the companies E.ON and Delgaz Grid.About 70% of respondents have already taken various simple measures, such as the optimal setting of their water boilers, turning off the lights in the rooms where they do not live or opting for LED lighting, which bring significant savings versus incandescent bulbs or even fluorescent bulbs and have a longer lifespan. A much smaller share, 16%, said that they have invested in the purchase and installation of photovoltaic panels, with or without storage batteries.Regarding the financial resources necessary to materialise investments in home energy efficiency, over 58% of Romanians say they will use their own savings, and 12% will take out bank loans, while almost 30% of respondents hope to be able to access state-funded programmes, such as, for example, the Photovoltaic Green House.Asked about their priority to have an energy-efficient home, 43% of respondents consider that replacing old appliances with those with higher energy classes is the best solution, and about 20% others say that weatherisation and replacing heating plant with a condensing one are the most advantageous measures to reduce energy consumption.A condensing boiler is said to be more efficient than a regular one, consuming up to 30% less gas while having a higher efficiency and a longer lifespan.Savings on bills are the main motivation for 75% of Romanians in terms of energy efficiency measures, while increased comfort is mentioned by 13% of respondents, and almost 10% show concern for the environment and say that an energy-efficient home contributes to reducing pollution. Much fewer, around 2%, are those who appreciate that the value of the house increases through such measures.Half of the respondents estimate that, after applying energy efficiency measures, their bills could drop by 20-40%, and a quarter of them expect a decrease below 20%. The other quarter estimates that bills will drop between 40 and 60%.The despre-energie.ro platform, a project backed by the companies E.ON and Delgaz Grid, was established in 2020 with the objective of becoming, for electricity and gas consumers, one of the main sources of information and, at the same time, of explaining, in a clear and accessible language, the relevant and impactful developments in the energy market. The survey was carried out by Surveys Marketing Relations Public SRL for the despre-energie.ro platform between October 15-24, on a sample of 1,052 online users. It has a margin of error of +/-3%.
