Study: Companies wholly owned by women are more profitable

October 29, 2025

Companies wholly owned by women have an average profitability of 12.3%, exceeding the general average (10.2%) by over two percentage points, claims the National Confederation for Women's Entrepreneurship (CONAF), citing data from a study. Moreover, these companies have recorded an annual turnover growth of over 13%, demonstrating resilience, adaptability and innovation. In a period when Romania needs stability and economic added value, these results clearly show that female entrepreneurship is a national strategic resource, the cited source states. The "She's Here" study was conducted by ING Bank and Bravva Capital, with the support of Termene.ro, and confirms that female entrepreneurs represent a growth engine for the Romanian economy."These data leave no room for interpretation: female entrepreneurship is a strategic resource for Romania. We are talking about over 100,000 companies fully owned by women and about almost half of the Romanian business environment where there is female shareholding. This presence can no longer be viewed as a marginal phenomenon, but as a solid reality, with a direct impact on GDP and national competitiveness," said Cristina Chiriac, president of CONAF, in a statement from the organization. In CONAF's vision, these statistics must become the foundation for public policies and support programs."To have a stronger economy, we cannot ignore the fact that women-led companies produce above-average profits. We need: dedicated financial instruments (credit lines with state guarantees, scale-up grants); mentoring and entrepreneurial education to support the expansion of these companies; tax incentives to encourage investments in women-owned businesses," the statement added.CONAF emphasizes that female entrepreneurship is not just a matter of gender equity, but a solid economic strategy."The valorization of women's entrepreneurial potential can become a major competitive advantage for Romania, capable of generating sustainable growth and resilience in an increasingly competitive global economy," the cited source says. The National Confederation for Women's Entrepreneurship (CONAF) is the most relevant confederation in Romania that advocates for more efficient dialogue with authorities, collaboration in the development of public policies that lead to sustainable economic growth and supports entrepreneurs, recognizing their merits. CONAF has 31 branches, 2 federations, 12 employers' associations, 38 associations and over 5,500 companies, over 245,000 employees.
