Survey: 68% of Romanians choose peace in Ukraine in conditions imposed by USA

More than two thirds of Romanians (68%) consider that peace in Ukraine should be signed in the conditions imposed by the US, according to an Avangarde opinion poll released on Tuesday.   According to the survey called “Regional security – perceptions and expectations”, the two thirds of respondents are opposed by 18% of Romanians, who are not the adepts of a possible peace signing in Ukraine, in the conditions imposed by USA, and 14% who were in the category “I do not know/do not answer.”   Romanians from the urban and rural areas answered the question as follows: yes – 70% urban, 61% rural; no – 17% urban, 24% rural; “I don't know/do not answer”- 13% urban, 15% rural. The survey also shows that about three quarters (74%) of respondents consider that Romania would be defended by NATO, if it were attacked by the Russian Federation. The answers were: yes -78% urban, 62% rural; no- 12% urban, 27% rural; I don't know/ do not answer- 10% urban, 11% rural.   Compulsory military service should be introduced again in Romania in the perception of 49% of people interviewed, while 47% reject this idea, while 4% do not know/do not answer.   Differences between urban and rural for the question about the reintroduction of the mandatory military service are: yes – 57% urban, 48% -rural; no -39% urban, 49% rural; do not know/ do not answer- 4% urban, 3% rural.   The question referring to Romania's rapid arming to consolidate its defense capacity, 71% of respndents had an affirmative answer, while 22% did not agree and 7% did not know/did not answer.   75% of Romanians in the urban area back the necessity of arming, against 60% of people in the rural area, while 17% of people in the urban and 35% in the rural areas reject it, while the rest (8% urban, 5% rural) do not know/do not answer.   36% of Romanians are satisfied by the bilateral relations between Romania and USA, while 56% are not satisfied and 8% do not know/do not answer.   As for closer economic relations with the Russian Federation, Romanians said yes – 48%, no – 49%, while 3% did not know, did not answer.   Respondents from the urban area back economic relations with the Russian Federation in a proportion of 55% and 36% of people in the rural area, while these relations are rejected by 37% of Romanians in the urban area and 55% in the rural area. 8% in the urban area and 9% in the rural area do not know/do not answer.   The survey was made by Avangarde between December 27 and 30, 2025, on 1,000 subjects, adults (18 year old and over), in Romania. The margin of error was plus/minus 3.4%.
