Survey: Seven out of ten Romanians go through difficult emotional state

November 9, 2023

Seven out of ten Romanians declare they are crossing a difficult emotional state, a third of them saying they work too much, a survey made by eJobs Romania, a recruiting platform shows. Also, 20% of respondents do not feel appreciated , while 13% say they are affected by various personal issues.   Asked about the emotional state they experienced mostly in the past year, more than half (53.4%) placed first the fear that their incomes would not keep up with price rises and they would not be able to make ends meet.   About 37.6% felt they were not understood by their employers, while 32% included the fear of not being able to find a new job.   At the same time, 23.3% of respondents mentioned they had lost their emotional balance. Other negative states Romanians faced in the past year were the worries of losing their job, loneliness and depression.   Two out of ten respondents said that the previous year had been a good one, without too many reasons of concern.   Asked whether they had felt the need to appeal to psychological aid, only 33.5% of participants in the survey gave a positive answer. Of them, 62.4% did nothing in that respect, 35% started going to therapy and paid fees from their own resources, while 2.6% had therapy as a benefit offered by the company they worked for.   Half of respondents who confessed they felt the need but did not see a therapist, say the reason was they could not afford it. About a third said they did not feel comfortable to speak about their problems with a stranger, while 3.4% declared they feared they could be judged by peole they knew.   A third of those who attended therapy say they feel the same as before and saw no changes following the process. About 35.8% say they felt calmer, whole 28.3% declared being more confident with themselves and the future. For 3.1% therapy sessions had an adverse effect and say they feld more nervous than before starting therapy.   About the relation they have with their employer, 77.7% do not think that managers are interested in their employees' emotional health. Moreover, on their job they feel a series of stress generators, such as the fact they work too much, that they have salaries too low for their present needs, that they have a stressful relation with their manager or other members of the team, that they are not allowed to work remote or they do not feel prepared enough to cope with job demands.   The survey was made over September-October 2023, on a sample of 1,572 respondents who had a job at that moment.   Launched in 1999, eJobs is the first recruting platform in Romania and the leader of local market. As of 2012, it has been part of Ringier AG group, an international media company based in Zurich, Switzerland.
