Survey:79% of Romanians are following Ukrainian events, 60% are afraid country could be invaded

More than three quarters (79%) of Romanians are personally following the events in Ukraine, and 60% are saying that they are afraid that Romania is in danger of being invaded, following Russia's attacks on the neighboring country, according to an opinion poll made by IRES (Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy) during the month of March.Thus, 79% of participants said that they are personally following the events in Ukraine, and 21% do not. Furthermore, 19% of those questioned said that fear is the strongest feeling they have towards the armed conflict in Ukraine, 17% feel empathy and 11% feel sadness.Among the questioned, 60% said that they are afraid that Romania is in danger of being invaded, following Russia's attacks on Ukraine, and 39% do not fear this.The overwhelming majority of respondents, 96%, mentioned that Romania should offer support for Ukrainian refugees, 38% said that Romania should send weapons in Ukraine, while 21% said that Romania should intervene militarily to support Ukraine.In the opinion of 77% of respondents, NATO is capable of withstanding an attack from Russia against member countries in the region, and 20% do not believe this.Asked what would they do if an armed conflict would break out in our country, 14% of those questioned replied that they would try to flee the country, 27% would stay and fight, 36% would stay and find shelter, and 20% would not do anything in particular.The IRES survey was done during the period of March 11-17, where 1,051 people replied, with ages of over 18 and has a maximum tolerated error of 3.1%.
