Talks in trilateral format Romania - USA - Netherlands, at inauguration of Training Center for F-16

December 13, 2023

The minister of National Defense, Angel Tilvar, had a trilateral meeting with the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kajsa Ollongren, and the ambassador of the United States of America in Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the European Training Center for the F-16 from the 86th Air Base.According to the Ministry of National Defence (MApN), the Monday discussions between the three dignitaries focused on the role of the F-16 Training Center in the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.During the talks, it was reaffirmed that both the Netherlands and the United States of America "are deeply engaged in strengthening the allied defense posture and deterring any aggressions in the Black Sea region, highlighting Romania's role as a pillar of stability and, at the same time, as a security provider in the region," according to the press release sent from MApN on Tuesday."Romania can be considered a catalyst, a regional hub, which integrates allied efforts to respond firmly and quickly to the specifics of the regional security environment. The European training center for F-16, a first in the European allied space, is a model of collaboration and solidarity between allies and partner states," minister Tilvar declared. The Dutch counterpart thanked Romania for the decision of hosting the pilot training facility and noted the speed with which Romania managed to integrate all the technical, logistical and legal steps between the two ministries and the Lockheed Martin company - as the manufacturer of the F-16 aircraft and of the training infrastructure. In turn, ambassador Kavalec emphasized the multiple positive aspects associated with establishing and operating the European Training Center for the F-16, both for Romania as well as for the allies and Ukraine.
