The budget deficit widens to 4.02 pct of GDP by end-July

Romania's general budget deficit widened to RON 71.04 billion as of end-July, at 4.02 percent of GDP, from RON 38.6 billion, respectively 2.40 percent of GDP in the same period of the previous year, the Finance Ministry informed on Tuesday.The mid-year deficit of the general consolidated budget was RON 63.67 billion, or 3.6 percent of GDP.Total revenues between January and July 2024 stood at RON 331.56 billion, up 15.1 percent year-over-year, and spending totaled RON 402.60 billion, up 23.2 percent in nominal terms compared to the same period of the previous year.The budget for this year is built on a deficit of 5 percent of GDP, down from 5.68 percent of GDP in 2023.
