The Netherlands remains the largest foreign investor in Romania, with around 20% of total foreign direct investment, worth more than 25 billion euro, President of the Netherlands Romanian Chamber of Commerce (NRCC) Serban Isopescu-Weber said at the 11th edition of the Orange Night event, which marked the 59th birthday of His Royal Highness King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands."The NRCC is a professional community that speaks with a strong and authentic voice in Romanian society. In the past 11 years, the NRCC Orange Night has become a landmark event for the business community, a place where partnerships are built and ideas are turned into long-term collaborations. The Netherlands remains the largest foreign investor in Romania, with around 20% of total foreign direct investment, worth more than 25 billion euro, a sign of confidence from the Dutch business community in Romania's potential. Interest continues to grow, especially in sectors such as energy, agriculture, logistics and industrial production. With appropriate fiscal policies and sustained investment in infrastructure, Romania could become a long-term economic success story within the European Union, Isopescu-Weber said, as quoted in a NRCC press release sent on Monday.According to a report by the National Bank of Romania (BNR) published on 19 September 2025, the Netherlands is the main destination for Romanian investments abroad, hosting more than 1.5 billion euro in Romanian capital.Thus, the Netherlands remains the largest foreign investor in Romania by the value of capital, holding around 20% of the total subscribed share capital of foreign investors (10 billion euro), with nearly 6,300 companies active locally.In March 2026, the ranking of the top 40 companies, based on the share of subscribed capital held by foreign investors, includes six Dutch companies, with Mega Image ranking first.The investments of Dutch companies have expanded significantly in key sectors such as retail, logistics, agribusiness and IT.In this context, Ahold Delhaize completed the acquisition of Profi on 3 January 2025, in a deal worth 1.3 billion euro, doubling its presence on the local retail market, while Action, the Dutch non-food retailer, entered the Romanian market in 2025 and is developing a 40 million euro logistics centre near Bucharest.At the same time, Heineken has completed a 12 million euro investment in advanced energy-efficient technologies at its plants in Craiova and Ungheni, part of a broader investment programme exceeding 100 million euro over the past decade in Romania.The 11th edition of the NRCC Orange Night event took place on 24 April 2026 and brought together more than 175 representatives of the Romanian and Dutch business community.
