Tourism : Arrivals in tourist accommodation units slightly up by 0.1pct in Jan-June

Arrivals in tourist accommodation units, including apartments and rooms for rent, totaled 5.8 million people between January 1 and June 30, 2025, up 0.1% compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).Of the total number of arrivals, during the said period, arrivals of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 80.8%, while arrivals of foreign tourists represented 19.2%.Overnight stays recorded in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), in the first six months, totaled 11.6 million, up 2.3% compared to those in the same period last year.Of the total number of overnight stays, during the mentioned period, overnight stays of Romanian tourists in tourist accommodation units represented 79.8%, while overnight stays of foreign tourists represented 20.2%.The average length of stay was two days for Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for foreign tourists.The net occupancy rate of tourist accommodation units in the first six months of this year was 25.7% for all tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), up 0.1 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024.By county, the number of tourist arrivals in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent) recorded higher values in: Bucharest (953,900 people), Brasov (635,600 people) and Constanta (366,200 people), as well as overnight stays: Bucharest (1.93 million people), Brasov (1.18 million people) and Constanta (977,000 people).By country, the most arrivals of foreign tourists accommodated in tourist accommodation units (including apartments and rooms for rent), during the reference period, came from: Germany (104,800 people), Italy (103,000 people) and the United Kingdom (72,700 people).The INS specifies that following Romania's accession to the Schengen Area on January 1, 2025, starting with January of this year, information regarding the arrivals of foreign visitors to Romania and the departures of Romanian visitors abroad are no longer comparable and will no longer be published.
