Tourism: Georgios Stafylakis (EOT): Over one million Romanian tourists visited Greece in 2022

January 5, 2023

The number of Romanian tourists who visited Greece this year exceeded one million, the double compared to the previous season, Georgios Stafylakis, the director of the Greek Tourist Organization (EOT) in Bucharest told Agerpres.   He pointed out that a normal number of tourists coming from Balkan countries is about 1.5 millions: “In the Balkan area, the normal number of tourists is about 1.5 millions per year, from each country, Bulgaria, Serbia or Romania.”   One of the problems present this year was that people decided rather late to leave on vacation, due to the uncertainty produced by the Ukraine war.   Asked whether next year's prices will be influenced by the economic crisis, Stafylakis said he hoped tourists would find reasonable accommodation in Greece.   “Everywhere in Europe, prices have gone up. In Greece we succeeded in maintaining prices within reasonable limits. We continue to make efforts, we talk to hotel owners and I think people will find prices for all budgets next year. They will find decent hotel rooms even with a low budget. That is because Greece has all accommodation levels, with 2,3,4 or 5 stars, and even luxury hotels,” the EOT representative said.
