Tourism: Romania's tourist accommodation capacity up 2.7 pct as of July 31

 Bed places in Romania's tourist accommodation establishments increased by 2.7%, on July 31, 2023, y-o-y, and tourist accommodation establishments went up by 4.1%, according to data centralized by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).Most hotels were rated three stars (54.5% of all hotels), followed by four-star hotels (25.6%) and two-star hotels (15.4%). There were 44 hotels rated five stars (8 more than on 31 July 2022).Of the total number of hotel beds, 45.3% were in three-star units, 31.9% were in four-star units, 16.8% in two-star hotels, 4.8% in five-star, 1.1% in one-star hotels and 0.1% in units not classified by stars.On 31 July 2023, there were 141 unrated tourist accommodation units (up from 88 on the same date last year), most of which were in bungalows (34.8% of the total in 2023), school and pre-school camps 31.9%. Also, of the 1,628 hotels in operation on 31 July 2023, three hotels (with a total of 168 beds) were unrated. Of the 3,591 apartments and rooms for rent, four apartments with a total of 38 beds were unrated.Of the existing tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent), 29.1% were in mountain resorts, 16.2% in the city of Bucharest and the county seat cities (excluding the city of Tulcea), 10.9% in coastal resorts (excluding the city of Constanta), 7.4% in seaside resorts, 3.9% in the Danube Delta (including the city of Tulcea), and 32.7% in other localities and tourist routes.The top three counties, ranked by the total number of existing tourist accommodation establishments (including apartments and rooms for rent), were: Constanta (1,498), Brasov (1,253) and Suceava (810).The county of Constanta had the largest share (25.7%) in the total number of rooms in tourist accommodation establishments (excluding rooms in houses), followed by the county of Brasov (7.9%) and Bucharest.Of the total number of existing tourist accommodation establishments, Constanta county held 25.7%, Brasov county 7.9% and Bucharest 5.9%.According to INS, out of 199,200 existing rooms in tourist accommodation establishments, 102,300 (51.4%) were in hotels on 31 July 2023, excluding rooms in huts.In 2023, compared to 2022, the number of rooms reported increased by 3,908 in apartments and rooms for rent, 692 in hotels, 529 in agro-tourism guesthouses, and decreased by 367 rooms in tourist guesthouses.The number of existing bed places at Romania's tourist accommodation establishments as of 31 July 2023 was 433,500. The most places, 205,500, were in hotels, followed by apartments and rooms for rent (62,900), agro-tourism guesthouses (58,100), tourist guesthouses (33,900), tourist villas (17,500), hostels (13,500).By tourist areas, of the total number of bed places, 106,900 were in coastal resorts (excluding the city of Constanta), 99,600 were in Bucharest and county towns (excluding the city of Tulcea), 92,800 in other localities and tourist routes, 82,900 in mountain resorts, 40,300 in seaside resorts and 10,900 in the Danube Delta area (including the city of Tulcea).
