The volume of merchandise trade (imports and exports) between Romania and Germany in January-June 2026 amounted to 21.4 billion euros, up slightly by 1.3%, indicating a recovery in trade between the two countries, according to the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Romania) in a press release.According to data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), German exports to Romania totalled 11.9 billion euros in the first half of the year, up 4.6% from the same period in 2025. At the same time, Germany imported less from Romania than a year earlier (-2.5%), with the value of goods imported from Romania reaching 9.5 billion euros.These results place Romania 17th in terms of German exports and 19th in terms of imports. Overall, Romania remains Germany's 17th-largest trading partner.'The positive performance of German exports to Romania once again confirms the country's important role in the European economy and in bilateral trade relations. Romania is one of Germany's most important trading partners, underscoring the strong potential of the local market and its high degree of integration into European value chains. For this momentum to continue, it is essential both to continue reforms and to advance infrastructure and digitalisation projects. Equally important is for economic policy decisions to be communicated in a credible and transparent manner. At the same time, a fully functioning government must be able to take concrete measures to revitalise the economy. For this year, we expect a slight increase in bilateral trade,' Sebastian Metz, Managing Director of AHK Romania, said, according to the press release.AHK Romania is the official representative of the German business community.
