Trade deficit up 17.2pct January through October this year

  The trade balance deficit (FOB/CIF) accounted for 27.211 billion euros in January-October this year, in Romania, higher by 3.993 billion euros (+17.2%) compared to the figure for the same interval last year, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).During the mentioned period, FOB exports amounted to 77.731 billion euros, down by 1.2%, and CIF imports amounted to 104.943 billion euros, up by 3%, compared to the same period in 2023.Important shares in the structure of exports and imports are held by the following product groups: machinery and transport equipment (47% for exports and 36.4% for imports) and other manufactured products (28.8% for exports and 28.9% for imports).The value of intra-EU27 trade in goods during the period 1 January - 31 October 2024 was 56.244 billion euros for shipments and 75.796 billion euros for imports, representing 72.4% of total exports and 72.2% of total imports.The value of extra-EU27 trade in goods in the same period was 21.487 billion euros in exports and 29.146 billion euros in imports, representing 27.6% of total exports and 27.8% of total imports.In October 2024, FOB exports amounted to 8.449 billion euros, and CIF imports amounted to 12.174 billion euros, resulting in a deficit of 3.724 billion euros. Compared to October 2023, exports in October 2024 increased by 0.5%, and imports increased by 8.6%.According to the INS, the FOB/CIF trade balance is calculated based on the value of FOB exports and CIF imports, as the difference between them. The negative balance of the trade balance is called a deficit, and the positive one is called a surplus.
