Trade: Inatech: The e-commerce sector in Romania was estimated at 11.7 billion euros in 2024

February 12, 2025

Inatech Group, a player on the Romanian packaging and insulation materials industry for construction, shows that the e-commerce sector becomes increasingly competitive, growing steadily in recent years, so that the demand for premium, personalised and more resistant packaging has also increased. In 2023, as the e-commerce sector represented approximately 13%  of the group's turnover, in 2024 it increased at over 15%. According to the group, the e-commerce sector in Romania was estimated at 11.7 billion euros in 2024, or 3.42%of GDP. This is an increase of 10% compared to the previous year.   'However,  only 50% of the Romanians aged between 16 and 74 buy online, which means that the potential of the industry is much greater. The data were  presented in the report ' European e-commerce, report 2024' commissioned by Ecommerce Europe, shows the group.   As the sector of e-commerce becomes more competitive, there grows the demand for premium, personalised and more resistant packaging.   The group says that they invested in the extension of the production capacity and the optimisation of the logistic chain, implementing processes of more efficient stockage and delivery.   'The constant growth of the e-commerce industry determined to innovate and diversify our portfolio of products. This evolution reflects both the interest of the clients for online acquisitionsand the capacity to meet the specific requirements of businesses. So, we reached in 2023 as the e-commerce sector represented approximately 13% of the turnover  of our group, and for 2024 we estimate that the share reached over 15%.As a result of this increase we have developed a category dedicated to e-commerce packaging for the peak period. This includes self-formed packagings that simplifies the order preparation process and significantly reduces packaging time. We have also diversified the materials used and introduced more resistant and personalised options to ensure product protection during transport ', stated Cristian Badescu, founder and CEO of the INATECH group.   The 4th quarter of the year is traditionally one of the busiest for the packaging industry, marked by intense demand from customers in e-commerce and other industries.   The Q4 shopping season contributes, on average, over 10% to the company's annual turnover.   In the run-up to the November and December shopping season, the most popular e-commerce packaging materials were: self-forming boxes, eco-friendly bubble wrap, courier envelopes, kraft packaging paper, paper bags and more.Along with these, professional packaging systems pay a crucial role. They help companies automate the packaging process and reduce the time and effort required to prepare each order.
