U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm Travels to Romania

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, through Wednesday, July 24, 2024, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm will travel to Romania to convene the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy and Climate Cooperation (P-TECC) , a platform for energy security and clean energy cooperation, created by the United States and including 24 central and eastern European countries. During the visit, the Secretary will promote U.S. industrial policy, including the Inflation Reduction Act, and highlight how the Biden-Harris Administration is working with global partners in the clean energy transition.   On Tuesday, Secretary Granholm will offer keynote remarks at the P-TECC Business Forum. Following her remarks, she and Minister Sebastian Burduja of Romania will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sage, a company specializing in geothermal energy and storage solutions, and Electrocentrale Bucuresti (ELCEN), Romania’s state-owned supplier of heat for Bucharest.   On Wednesday, the Secretary will give keynote remarks at the P-TECC Ministerial, highlighting the shared benefits of industrial policy for energy security and the energy transition. Secretary Granholm will also applaud significant milestones on several key U.S.-Romania projects that aim to advance Romania’s strategic efforts to advance the country’s civil nuclear program. These projects include plans to modernize the Cernavoda nuclear power plant with U.S. companies Fluor and Sargent & Lundy, and the signing of engineering contracts to advance a Small Modular Reactor project. Secretary Granholm will conclude her trip with a media availability alongside Minister Burduja.   Throughout the visit, Secretary Granholm will hold several bilateral meetings to discuss a variety of clean energy cooperation programs on-going and proposed with her ministerial counterparts from the European Union, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Ukraine.
