U.S., Ukrainian ambassadors visit construction site of new Romania-Ukraine road bridge across Tisa River

U.S. ambassador Kathleen Kavalec and Ukrainian ambassador Ihor Prokopchuk visited on Friday the site of the new road bridge that will connect Ukraine to Romania across the Tisa River and which is currently under construction on the outskirts of Sighetu Marmatiei city, president of the Maramures Council County Ionel Bogdan announced in a release. According to him, works are in an advanced phase and the bridge is slated to open to traffic next year.Romania's ambassador to Ukraine Alexandru Victor Micula was also present at the construction site, said Ionel Bogdan."This project is a dream that we, the people of Maramures and the residents of the Transcarpathia region, have had for more than 20 years now. Even if it is not the biggest project of the Maramures County Council from a financial point of view, it is its most important project, because it fulfills some extremely important goals for both countries and for both regions; it is not just about the economy, it is also about the connection between people," Ionel Bogdan emphasized, mentioning the important number of Romanians who live on Ukrainian soil and Mararamures County's strong Ukrainian ethnic community.Other officials present at the working visit to the site of the new Tisa River bridge were Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu - Secretary of state in the Transport Ministry, Romanian consul to Solotvyno Florin Gratian, Myroslav Biletsky - acting governor of the Transcarpathia Region, Florin Coman - head of the Sighetu Marmatiei Border Police Territorial Inspectorate, Maramures County public administrator Gabriel Bogdan Stetco, and representatives from the County Council expert apparatus.The American and Ukrainian diplomats arrived in Maramures County the day before, participating in several events and visiting a series of ongoing public investments and companies that produce equipment for the aeronautical industry.
