UDMR: If the pay law reaches Parliament without a majority, it cannot turn out well

The uniform public pay bill should be debated and voted on in Parliament based on a prior political agreement, according to national leader of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor.He was asked where the money for wage increases would come from after the approval of the new law, and he said that, at the moment, there are no clarifications."We have no answer at this moment and especially we do not know how the 12 billion were distributed, among what socio-professional categories, from Education, to Health, to Administration, to Public Order and Defence. So, we do not yet have a film, a picture, where this money was distributed. So, for me, for now, there are more questions than answers," Kelemen said on Tuesday in Parliament.He added that without a solid political majority in Parliament, the bill cannot turn out well."If it arrives without a political agreement, without a political majority in Parliament, it cannot turn out well. Because here, immediately, a bunch of amendments appear, some, perhaps, acceptable, others perhaps less and it is not possible with a bill of this magnitude without this majority. So, I would not encourage anyone to come up with the public pay bill without a prior political agreement. On the other hand, of course, if we do not manage to pass this bill at this moment, the imbalances in the system remain, but, anyway, next year there will be an increase of 7%-8%, depending on the data from the Institute of Inflation Statistics, but the imbalances remain. I would like this law to be adopted in this extraordinary session or next week, but we have to have answers to these questions, because if we pass the bill without having answers from where we will get the 4 billion and after that a government that will be invested somewhere in September, I guess. It will come with an increase in taxes and we are done. So, you cannot make a decision on such a wage increase without knowing about resources before voting, because after that there will be pressure on the government to find resources and where to find resources if the government has not found before, of course, only through tax increases with which I do not agree," said Kelemen.President Nicusor Dan was scheduled on Tuesday to hold talks on the uniform public pay bill with the national leader of the Saocial Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union (USR) and UDMR.
