US ambassador Kavalec on 143 years of Romanian-American ties: Our strategic partnership is stronger than ever

November 16, 2023

US ambassador in Bucharest Kathleen Kavalec said on Thursday at Peles Castle, where she attended an event dedicated to the 143rd anniversary of Romanian-American bilateral ties, that the strategic partnership between the two countries today is stronger than ever. She added that, as Romania's Foreign Minister Odobescu can attest to, they always have consultations on the most important issues of the moment. Romania is a trusted member of NATO, ensuring the security on NATO's south-eastern flank, she said, adding that thousands of American soldiers, men and women, are here with their Romanian colleagues as a result of the war in Ukraine bordering Romania. At the same time, Kavalec added that Romania and the US have developed increasingly close relations: bilateral trade has tripled in the last 15 years alone; the number of American companies operating in Romania has doubled, up to almost a thousand. Romanian scientists, professors and researchers have obtained important positions at US universities, and American specialists get involved in innovation and energy independence projects here in Romania. On her part, Custodian of the Romanian Crown, Princess Margareta, mentioned in her speech the involvement of the Romanian Royal Family in securing stability in the region."Since the beginning of the tragic invasion of Ukraine, Prince Radu and I had the privilege to meet President Biden and the First Lady, and know much Romania's contribution to NATO, the EU and, generally, to the security of the transatlantic world is appreciated in your country. Indeed, for the last thirty years, we have continued to promote our bilateral relations both in the USA and in Romania. And we are committed to contribute to the security and stability of the region by firmly and continuously supporting the fundamental interests of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, to which the Romanian Crown is united by strong identity ties," said Margareta.Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu spoke about the fact that Russia remains the most important threat to Euro-Atlantic security, showing that it has already failed what it set out to do, namely to erase Ukraine from the map and erases the identity of an independent country. She reiterated the fact that NATO is stronger than ever."Together we are stronger and we will respond successfully to all challenges," Odobescu concluded. An event dedicated to the 143rd anniversary of official ties between Romania and the US, hosted by Custodian of the Romanian Crown Margareta took place on Thursday at Peles Castle.June 14, 2023 marked the 143th year of formal diplomatic ties between Romania and the US, established under the reign of Sovereign Prince Carol I and the presidency of Rutheford B.
