US official: The antimissile defence system in Deveselu will become active on December 18

December 23, 2015

The antimissile defence system in southwestern Romania's Deveselu will become active on December 18, John Heffer, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary John Heffern told Radio Romania Actualitati (RRA) on Wednesday in Washington. John Heffern participated on Wednesday at the Library of Congress in the reception marking the National Day of Romania. Activating the antimissile defence system in Deveselu on December 18 demonstrates very, very strongly a good governance, transparency and fight against corruption, Heffern stated. I was very enthusiastic to see the events that took place in Bucharest in the past two months. State Secretary (John) Kerry described Romania's commitment for good governance as a model for other countries, the US official stated. Asked about the security situation in the region, he warned that challenges are coming from all sides. From the East we have, of course, issues with Russian aggression in Ukraine, we have problems in the South as well, the US official stated. From the point of view of its geographical location and politic commitment, Romania is important for us, to be able to face these challenges, John Heffern added.
