Wizz Air is preparing for mass redundancies in Romania

October 7, 2026

Wizz Air prepares a round of mass redundancies in Romania, according to notifications sent to employees and obtained by APIX.ro. The information is given by the Iasi publication and it has not been confirmed by the company yet. According to the document posted, 172 of Wizz Air’s 1,892 employees in Romania are set to be affected by the restructuring. The redundancies are scheduled for October and November 2026, and employment contracts are set to terminate upon expiry of the notice period. Most of the redundancies are expected to take place at the operational bases in Craiova and Bucharest. According to the document published by APIX.ro, the situation is as follows: •Bucharest – 46 employees; •Craiova – 47 employees; •Iasi – 44 employees; •Cluj-Napoca – 36 employees. The list of affected roles includes pilots, co-pilots and cabin crew. According to the notice, all those affected hold operational roles. The document sets out two criteria that could be used to determine the order of redundancies. The first is the assessment of professional performance, based on the most recent annual appraisal available. The second criterion is length of service within the Wizz Air group. The notice specifies that length of service would only be used in situations where the performance assessment does not allow for a clear distinction between employees. The Wizz Air trade union may submit its views on the proposed redundancies by 14 September at the latest, according to information published by APIX.ro. In Bucharest, the plan is to fill 7 captain posts, 6 co-pilot posts and 33 cabin crew posts. In Craiova, the list includes 6 captains, 8 co-pilots and 33 cabin crew members. In Cluj-Napoca, the list includes 5 captain posts, 6 co-pilot posts and 25 cabin crew posts. In Iasi, the document lists 6 captains, 7 co-pilots and 30 cabin crew members.
